
The music industry is changing faster than ever—and expanding as the internet continues to blur national boundaries. To keep up, you need to know how to manage legal, financial, artistic, and ethical issues across cultures. For the global entertainment and music business master’s degree, you’ll learn the concepts and methods to meet the artistic management and entrepreneurial challenges of music and digital media in the contemporary international entertainment industry. You’ll choose either the management or entrepreneurial track, with a culminating directed study, thesis, or internship.

Who Are We Looking For?
We seek focused, motivated, creative candidates with excellent academic and professional backgrounds who can contribute skills that will benefit the program. The ideal candidate wants to:

Candidates should demonstrate that they have:
- Prior academic success
- Experience in music or entertainment, preferably with a business connection
- Leadership in professional and/or academic environments
- Effective communication skills (musically, orally, and in writing)
- The ability to work effectively with others typically found in the global music industry
Admissions Requirements
Global entertainment and music business applicants must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in music or business (or equivalent credentials) from an accredited institution, and demonstrate leadership, motivation, intellectual curiosity, and promise of great achievement in their area of study. Applicants must submit the following material before March 31, 2012:
- Application (online only).
- Application fee of 120 euros (payable by major credit card only).
- Statement of purpose (two pages maximum): Please tell us about yourself and share why you are pursuing a graduate degree from Berklee College of Music.
- Resume/curriculum vitae.
- Two letters of recommendation.
- One official copy of transcripts from all institutions attended or attending, including evidence of completed bachelor’s degree in music or business (or the equivalent) from an accredited institution. Applicants for whom English is a second language must have successfully completed their undergraduate studies at an English-speaking university or must submit results of the following standardized tests.
Application Process
All applicants will be reviewed by the graduate admissions committee and screened on the basis of a completed application and supporting materials specified for their major. Successfully screened applicants will be notified for an in-person interview in Valencia or Boston.

Allen Bargfrede, Program Director

The global entertainment and music business master’s program is headed by Allen Bargfrede, a music attorney, author of “Music Law in the Digital Age”, and former Berklee College of Music/Boston professor. His background includes time spent at both law firms and as corporate in-house counsel, and he has experience advising music artists, record labels, managers, publishers, and producers, as well as Internet search providers and content distribution and technology companies.Allen is the co-author of the book “Music Law in the Digital Age,” published in early 2010, as well as several articles on copyright, and he speaks frequently on the subject. He serves on the Board of Trustees for the Boston Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, and holds a JD and a BA from the University of Texas and an MA from Northwestern University. Licensed to practice law in California, Massachusetts, Tennessee and Texas.

Global entertainment and music business applicants must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in music or business (or equivalent credentials) from an accredited institution, and demonstrate leadership, motivation, intellectual curiosity, and promise of great achievement in their area of study.
I have an undergraduate degree from Berklee College of Music. Is there a special process to apply to this master’s degree program?
The process is the same as for any other applicant.
