SGAE
Since 1997, SGAE has complemented its core tasks with several services as mandated by its statutes. Those services include promotion of the artistic creator, training in new technologies and assistance, and are provided through several companies that constitute the Grupo SGAE. The leading firm of the group is Fundación Autor which provides assistance and educational and promotional services to SGAE´s members. Other companies in the Grupo SGAE include Iberautor, the Sociedad Digital de Autores y Editores (SDAE or Digital Society of Authors and Editors), el Instituto Complutense de Ciencias Musicales (ICCMU or, Complutense Institute of Musical Sciences), el Centro de Investigación y Estudios de Mercados Culturales (CIMEC or Center for Research and Studies of Cultural Markets), el Instituto de Derecho de Autor (Institute for Author´s Rights), el Instituto Buñuel and the Mutualidad de Previsión Social de Autores y Editores (the Authors and Editors´ Mutuality). |
Founded by a group of artistic creators in 1899, the Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE, the General Society of Authors and Editors) is a not-for-profit organization devoted to the management and defense of the creative property rights of its more than 91,000 members, including film directors, screenwriters, playwrights, choreographers, and music composers. Through its 14 offices in Spain and its delegations in Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, China, Japan, Mexico and the United States, SGAE licenses, and distributes the proceedings from, a copyrighted repertoire of more than five and a half million pieces including musical, audiovisual, dramatic and dance works.
