Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, the world’s recognized leading institute for contemporary music education, and Sociedad General de Autores y Editores (SGAE), a worldwide leader in author and intellectual property rights, have been working closely to develop an academic vision and educational model that will help the young musicians of Spain and Europe meet the challenges and seize the opportunities of the contemporary music industry.

Valencia offers a distinctive and culturally rich atmosphere in which music is highly prominent. The diverse musical traditions of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East come together in and around Valencia. And with over 500 symphonic and concert bands in the area, Valencia and the neighboring communities are viewed by many as the "Band Capital of the World."

Berklee currently maintains partnerships with other postsecondary music institutions in 15 countries around the world and looks forward to including Valencia in its international network.

Construction on ARTeria Valencia cultural complex is scheduled to begin in 2009 and continue for about 3 years.

If construction moves according to schedule, there will be a few short-term programs offered in the summer of 2012. Full-time programs are projected to start in September 2012.

We can let you know when we start the process of admitting the inaugural class for Berklee Valencia. Submit an information request here and we will correspond with you as the application process develops.

The requirements for the various programs are still in the process of being determined. It is expected that music performance or writing experience or prior education in music will be required for some of the programs.

An audition and interview will be required for most programs. Special programs will have separate requirements.

Berklee Valencia will offer both undergraduate program awards and a Master’s degree.

Instruction will primarily be conducted in English.

Faculty will be leaders in their respective fields, practicing professionals, and visiting faculty from Berklee in Boston.

Berklee Valencia will initially offer five postsecondary programs of study – Music for Film and Integrated Media, Electronic Production and Design, Global Music and Entertainment Management, and Symphonic Band Studies. Most of the programs of study will offer areas of music education that are new to Europe, focusing on contemporary music and involving music technology as an integral component. A program in Mediterranean Music is also being planned. Courses will be offered at undergraduate and graduate levels.

We are seeking accreditation from agencies in the EU and US in order to offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees.

The transfer of credits is determined by the college receiving the credits.

Yes. Semester-long study abroad programs will be available to students in most majors. In any given semester there will be many students from the Boston campus studying in Valencia.

Yes. Programs to provide talented and qualified applicants with financial support are being set up by both SGAE and Berklee. We are also actively seeking support to make programs affordable to all qualified applicants.

Student residences are being constructed as part of the project. Students should expect multiple options for housing in Valencia.
