The Mediterranean Music Institute (MMI) will have different ongoing activities:
Mediterranean Music Studies
A performance-based academic program for exceptionally talented musicians with an interest in the various Mediterranean music cultures. The aim of this program is to give students a greater understanding of the fundamental qualities of Mediterranean music and give them the necessary tools and experiences to enter a professional musical career.
It is divided into two general areas: learning and experiential.
- A 12-week study program of Mediterranean music with weekly visiting artists and clinics.
- The Mediterranean Music Orchestra touring and recording experience. An experiential period of international touring, record recording, and music business preparation. More Info.
The Archive and Research Center
The Institute will begin a Mediterranean Music Archive which will include all performances and recordings of our selected students, as well as visiting artist’s performances, interviews and workshops that will be a part of all academic activities of the Mediterranean Music Institute.
The MMI Workshop series
A series of workshops and lectures from a wide variety of Mediterranean artists will be held throughout the year. This will be an ongoing activity, initially in Boston, BIM schools and Valencia.
The Berklee Flamenco Project
For two weeks, a group of young, talented flamenco musicians from Spain will be sent to Berklee in Boston to do a flamenco/fusion recording with a group of students with a Mediterranean background. This project will close with a presentation event concert where the students and flamenco musicians will share the stage.
